Undriving Stories Project funded by 4Culture
a LOW IMPACT VEHICLE exploration (aLIVe)
In December 2009, 4Culture posted a call for ideas to inspire and engage the broader community in a conversation about transportation. The aLIVe project aims to spark interaction across disciplines, showcase ideas and suggest action around issues of energy, livability and design.

At Undriving we were immediately interested. The Undriver Licensing Station was a part of aLIVe (a Low Impact Vehicle exhibition) last summer – where panelist Jen Graves of the Stranger described us as a “social sculpture.”
This week we learned that Undriving’s founder/director Julia Field is one of eight artists selected by 4Culture. With this funding we will create a series of 5-7 short documentary videos about Undriving.
“With the Undriving Stories Project, I want to showcase some of the creative and thought-provoking ways Undrivers are getting from Point A to Point B without cars,” said Julia. “I believe that each story will inspire others to experiment with Undriving more – whether by following the example, or by pursuing whatever ideas the story might spark for them. Seeing the faces and hearing the voices of these Undrivers will further this movement of people waking up to their own resourcefulness, taking empowered action, and discovering freedom, health, and community instead of deprivation when stepping out of their cars.”
The videos will be produced with students from the University of Washington’s Master of Communication in Digital Media (MCDM) program, which is directed by documentary filmmaker, journalist and Undriver Hanson Hosein. Undriving is currently a client for two MCDM classes.
