City of Redmond Employee Health and Transportation Fair – 44 new Undrivers!
Thursday, August 12, 2010 – 11am-2pm – Redmond Senior Center
The City of Redmond invited us to set up the Undriver Licensing Station at the annual health fair to license city employees and encourage car-free commuting. Employees from all divisions made pledges to start car-pooling, to take advantage of the City’s Loaner Bikes for errands and meetings nearby, and to commute by bike, bus, and walking more often.
IMPACT Redmond eco-fair – 315 new Undrivers!
Saturday, July 10, 2010 – 10am-6pm – Redmond City Hall Campus
The Undriver Licensing Station teamed up with the City of Redmond to license Undrivers and get Redmond residents out of their cars this summer. The Undriver Licensing Station appeared at the IMPACT: Eco-Fair – held right next to the annual Derby Days festivities. This event also kicked off the City’s eight-week “We are Undriving Redmond” Challenge – adults and kids can win prizes from R-TRIP for logging trips by bike, walking, and bus.
Seattle Green Festival - 264 new Undrivers!
Saturday and Sunday, June 5-6, 2010 – WA State Convention and Trade Center
Undriving was honored to be a part of the programming at the region’s premier sustainability event for the second year in a row. Green Festival celebrates what’s working in our communities—for people, business and the environment. We had our Big License setup there, and people couldn’t miss us, front-and-center in the Skybridge. Undrivers could also connect with information about transportation options throughout the region at the Transportation Resource Center next door. Thanks to Amtrak Cascades for Sponsorship.
Ballard High School – 94 new Undrivers
Monday and Tuesday, May 17-18, 2010 – Seattle
With support from SDOT Safe Routes to School program, the Undriver Licensing Station went back to school. Students from the Earth Service Corps invited others to make Undriving pledges and get licensed – just in time for Bike to School Day May 21st. Our friends from Cascade Bicycle Club were there too, handing out route and safety information and making bicycle-powered smoothies!
American Medical Response – Family Fun Picnic – 102 new Undrivers

In a salute to the planet and positive choices, this company engaged Undriving to spend a Saturday with their employees and families at the annual company picnic. We enjoyed licensing Undrivers of all ages and supporting these drivers who come to our rescue, in reducing their non-work driving. The Seafair Clowns showed up and all got licensed, too!
John Muir Elementary School – 55 new Undrivers

Our friends at Feet First have been working with this school through the Safe Routes to School program, and invited us to support their Walking Wednesdays and Walking School Bus initiative with Undriver Licensing.
Reeves Middle School – 88 new Undrivers
Friday, April 30, 2010 – Olympia
InterCity Transit’s youth program invited the Undriver Licensing Station to Reeves Middle School. We generated quite a buzz at the Friday night dance – students came in throngs to get licensed.
Arts Walk 2010 – 134 new Undrivers
Friday, April 23, 2010 – 5-10pm – 222 State Avenue, downtown Olympia
We joined our friends at InterCity Transit to celebrate ArtsWalk 2010! Olympians of all ages got their Washington Undriver Licenses amid live music, performances, visual art, and hands-on family activities. Festivities continued on Saturday, with the annual “Parade of the Species” at noon.
Transportation Advocacy Day - 34 new Undrivers
Thursday, January 28, 2010- 9am-5pm, 110 11th Ave SE, Olympia
Undriving.org joined with a dozen other organizations to host this event in Olympia. 100+ advocates from all over the state spoke up for more funding for transportation choices, safer streets for bicyclists and pedestrians, creating transit-oriented communities, and healthier transportation solutions. Undriving.org issued Undriver Licenses and presented two breakout sessions.
Eckstein Middle School – 16 new Undrivers
Tue, December 1, 2009 – 8am, 3003 NE 75th, Seattle
Cascade Bicycle Club and teacher Jessica Levine invited us to come license the school’s most ardent bicycle commuters! After wrapping up the school’s SDOT mini-grant project, these committed cyclists pledged to continue riding all year, to ride in the rain, and to invite friends to join them on bikes. We hope to get invited back to license the rest of the kids who were attracted by the Licensing Station in the hallway on their way to home room!
Alex Steffen at Town Hall - 25 new Undrivers
Thurs, November 12, 2009 – 6:30-9:30pm, Seattle
Undriving was honored to be a part of Alex Steffen’s talks on the state of our planet, before he headed to Copenhagen to be a keynote speaker at the Climate Change Conference. In his inspiring talk titled “Seattle’s Bright Green Moment,” Steffen called on Seattle to become the first carbon-neutral city in the U.S. We hopped right on that bandwagon, collecting Undriving pledges!
Loyal Heights Elementary School – 94 new Undrivers
Fri, October 16, 2009 – 3-6pm, NW 80th and 26th NW, Ballard
At the school’s annual Jog-A-Thon, we issued Undriver Licenses to kids and families who pledged to reduce car-trips to school – either by changing their own family’s transporation, or by influencing others to walk or bike more. In spite of the pouring rain, families were out en masse – and we licensed over 25% of the school. Thanks to the PTA and an SDOT Safe Routes to School mini-grant.
David Byrne at Town Hall - 24 new Undrivers
September 28, 2009 – 6:30-9:30pm, Town Hall, Seattle
When we heard David Byrne was coming to town with his new book, Bicycle Diaries, we knew we wanted to be there. We licensed enthusiastic Undrivers before and after the talk, at our own beloved Town Hall. We sent a custom-made Undriver License backstage to David Byrne himself, and got word back that he loved it – and had even heard of us!
6th Annual Sustainable Ballard Festival - 300 new Undrivers
Sat-Sun, September 26-27, 2009, noon-5pm at Ballard Commons Park
The Undriver Licensing Station was back for its 3rd appearance at Sustainable Ballard’s amazing annual festival – but this was our first time here with the highly interactive Big License setup.
“aLIVe: a Low-Impact Vehicle exhibition” - 53 new Undrivers

The Undriver Licensing Station was featured at this interactive event celebrating human-powered transportation and creativity. Fest-goers test-drove the artist-made vehicles, got licensed to Undrive, ran a 5K, and learned about healthy living. Presented by Great City Initiative, in conjunction with Seattle Parks Dept’s “Healthy Parks, Healthy You” event.
Rainier Heritage Festival / Celebrate Summer Streets! - 100 new Undrivers

For its second year, the Undriver Licensing Station celebrated car-free streets in Rainier Valley! This year the event also featured the Rainier Heritage Parade, and we joined in with our “Big Undriver License.” Thanks to our friends at Sustainable South Seattle for teaming up and hosting us.
Sound Transit Light Rail Launch – 121 new Undrivers

Undriving celebrated the launch of our region’s first Light Rail line! Folks rode for free from Westlake to Tukwila, and stopped off at Othello Station to get their Undriver Licenses. The Undriver Licensing Station was hosted by Sustainable South Seattle and Transportation Choices Coalition, amid a great street fair.
Zipcar Low Car Diet Challenge – 24 new Undrivers

Our friends at Zipcar invited us to license the participants in their Low Car Diet Challenge! 30 intrepid Seattle Undrivers dropped their car keys into a bowl and promised to leave their car in “Park” for a month.
Bike to Work Day After-Party – Celebrate Summer Streets! – 78 new Undrivers
Friday, May 15 – 4-7pm, downtown Ballard (Seattle), NW Market and 22nd Ave NW
For three hours the streets of downtown Ballard turned into one massive bike party! Undriver Licensing was a part of celebrating Cascade Bicycle Club’s Starbucks Bike to Work Day and the City of Seattle’s Celebrate Summer Streets.
2nd Annual Sustainable West Seattle Festival - 135 new Undrivers

The Undriver Licensing Station made its second visit to West Seattle, thanks to our fellow SCALLOPS group, Sustainable West Seattle. Great festival! These guys are organized. They even got the sun to come out, even though it had rained all night. Hats off!
Earth Day Celebration – 60 new Undrivers!

Green Festival Catalyst Charles Earnest invited us to celebrate Earth Day with this warm community of Undrivers from age 5 to 82.
Seattle Green Festival - 514 new Undrivers!
Sat-Sun, March 28-29, 2009 – WA State Convention and Trade Center, Seattle
Undriving was invited to be part of the programming at Seattle Green Festival this year - where we premiered our new “Big License” method. 514 Undrivers of all ages made Undriving pledges and got into the act of making their own licenses – writing on the big dry-erase licenses, and making their Undriving commitment visible with a whole selection of Undriving props. Undrivers also visited the Undriver Resource Center – where volunteers shared information from King County METRO, Sound Transit, Cascade Bicycle Club, Bicycle Alliance, Spokespeople, and Feet First. On Saturday at 4pm, Julia Field moderated and presented in the panel, Stories of Undriving: Getting Creative about Getting Around.
Transportation Freedom Day – 13 new Undrivers!

Transportation costs amount to 20% of a typical family’s annual budget – so 20% of the way through the year is “Transportation Freedom Day.” This March, Undriving joined with WashPIRG, Transportation Choices Coalition, Futurewise, and the Sierra Club in mock-celebration.
Bainbridge Island ECO Village – 34 new Undrivers!

Bainbridge Island Chamber of Commerce organized this sweet fair, in conjunction with a Green Home Tour. Intrepid Undrivers brought the Station equipment over to the Island by bus and ferry, in a backpack and rolling suitcase!
Ballard Greendrinks – 20 new Undrivers!

Twice a year, the environmental networking group Greendrinks meets in neighborhood locations. Sustainable Ballard co-hosted the January Ballard Greendrinks. Transport to downtown Ballard: wheelbarrow!
Safe Routes to School “Summit”- 23 new Undrivers!

Julia Field presented the Undriving program as part of a panel on “Creative Engagement of Youth Around Transportation Choices” at the inspiring Safe Routes to School Summit, and 23 attendees got their Undriver Licenses. A lot of wonderful work is being done in this state (and beyond!). Carpooling to Spokane with other creative and committed folk was one of the highlights of this great conference.
5th Annual Sustainable Ballard Festival - 581 new Undrivers!

The Undriver Licensing Station was back for its first anniversary – at Sustainable Ballard’s amazing annual festival that attracted 7,200 people on a sunny weekend. This year’s county-fair-themed festival celebrated hands-on learning and getting creative about living more and more sustainably, and we were right there at “Grand Central.”
World Carfree Day - 43 new Undrivers
Mon, September 22, 1-4pm outside the Ballard Neighborhood Service Center
Undriving joined with organizations all over the world to mark World Carfree Day, celebrated since 2000 – a day of reclaiming our streets and lives from the automobile. We shuffled our ShuffleBus to downtown Ballard, with a crew from Northwest Cable News in tow – then issued Undriver Licenses in front of the Neighborhood Service Center.
Car-Free Sunday on Rainier Ave S - 74 new Undrivers

We had a great time at this City-sponsored celebration of bicycling, walking, and being in community, with the streets closed to cars for the afternoon. We were hosted by our friends from Sustainable South Seattle.

Fremont Outdoor Movies – “An Inconvenient Truth” – 22 new Undrivers

At “Save the World” night at the movies, Undriving joined with Puget Sound Community Change Card, Coolmoms, Climate Action Lab to help people take action around climate change. A professional photographer took pictures of people in our new giant Undriver License, and they all got projected on the big screen!
Seattle Greendrinks – 30 new Undrivers

Greendrinks met in neighborhood nodes in July. Sustainable Ballard and Puget Sound Community Change Card co-sponsored this meet-up of environmentally concerned Ballardians.
International Car-free Conference – 65 new Undrivers

We brought our Undriver Licensing Station to the week-long “Towards Carfree Cities” conference via Amtrak and bicycle trailer, and issued licenses to Undrivers from around the US and the world. Julia Field presented the Undriving program on a panel about Encouraging Sustainable Transportation Behavior on June 18. An inspiring conference!

The Seattle event in Bill McKibbon’s national effort was held on campus at UW. Many students attended, who already bike, bus, and walk as their primary transportation. We discovered a lot about what car-free Undrivers can pledge to help reduce car use on the planet.
